About the Farmhouse

Looking for that really special 'get away from it all' rural holiday home? Gilfachwydd farmhouse sleeps 6-8 guests & is set in a truly beautiful location, close to Cader Idris, Gwernan Lake & Dolgellau in Snowdonia National Park. Gilfachwydd is an authentic and cosy, 18th century, traditional stone-built, farmhouse/cottage with two/three bedrooms. It enjoys stunning rural views from many aspects and has been tastefully decorated to a high standard, whilst retaining many character features included 2 wood burners, along with the comforts of modern living.

Set in an enviable, elevated position close to Cader Idris, Gwernan and Creganain Lakes, but only a couple of miles from civilisation, it enjoys fabulous views of the beautiful Snowdonia countryside.  Miles of stunning walks await you! This property has a large farmhouse kitchen, huge dining room, stunning conservatory, large sitting room, 2 main bedrooms, a landing area with put up beds, 2 bathrooms and lots of outside space.

Gilfachwydd was originally built as a traditional Welsh farm and due to is unique location part of the land is now a quiet 'Caravan Club' site aimed at the 'get away from it all' campers.  The small front part of the farmhouse is used as the site office, (not really manned; there is an honesty box for the caravan club members), but it is totally separated from the large main house, of which the guests enjoy full and private use.  This is your perfect holiday home - not overlooked (only by sheep) and with a lovely rear private garden and a large patio area, with built in BBQ - perfect setting for al fresco dining.  Also, FREE WIFI!

It's a 5 min short walk to the Gwernan pub, 10mins drive into Dolgellau & 15 min drive to the coast at Barmouth & Fairbourne. Set in The Snowdonia National Park, Gilfachwydd is ideally situated for whatever type of holiday you want. Large CO-OP & Euro Spar stores are a 10 min drive away.  Dolgellau old town has a leisure centre with pubs, cafes, good restaurants (can recommend several), independent shops and a monthly farmers market. There is a Wednesday Market in Machylleth all year round. For those with young families, miles of sweeping sandy beaches can be found in Tywyn, Aberdovey or Barmouth. If you're into cycling or horse riding, there are numerous scenic places to ride. This is a walker's paradise with Cadair Idris just a few minutes away & the house is dog friendly!

With fairly level access off the drive, you enter through the rear enclosed garden and into the kitchen, with real slate flooring, beamed ceilings and a 'pully' as a feature. This lovely big cottage style kitchen is hand made in wood and give the farmhouse a very authentic rustic feel. It is really well equipped with everything you require to cook for a large family or group, including a filter coffee machine, microwave and much more. There are 2 washing up areas, one with a Belfast sink.  The kitchen boasts a superb range of appliances, including an American fridge/freezer, dishwasher, a huge range style cooker with numerous ring gas hob and 2 electric ovens.  Views over the front garden & pond. Hills in the foreground.

"The house is comfortable and well equipped with a great conservatory, garden and views. A little way out in the country, so there is plenty of peace and quiet. Dolgellau is walkable from the house for the more able as it's uphill all the way back!"
